A great feature with Android is the ability for device manufactures to implement their own “skin” to work in their device(s). We’ve seen this in the form of HTC Sense on HTC phones, and, has also followed suit with the release of the Android Tablet. In Part 1 of our Software Overview on the Streak, we showed you ’s custom interface. Well, now it’s time to run some tests and check out how a few highly used apps perform on the Streak. First, we check out how fast the YouTube app loads. Next, we look at how well the browser performs on this device and if the big 5″ screen truly makes the experience better. Finally, its time to see how the Streak stacks up against the EVO 4G in gaming performance.

its resolution == 4.1 inch display of galaxy S ,
, 4.5 inch ill mark the end of screen size race…..nw they need to increase the resolution to max !!..

5″ is good size. Still fits in pocket and.. ohhh… but no physical Qwerty-keyboard.. huge mistake. And u know what, its not Nokia. No points for that device..

Did you guys see Walt Mossberger’s ( Wall St. Journal ) review on the Dell Streak?

Get this- it crashed 3 times on him! One time it went into a continuous vibrate cycle that required him to remove the batteries.

I guess that typical of all things Android.

@husky041 yeah. the gorilla glass is strong like, but because it has the ability to flex it can bend and inflict pressure on the LCD and then it cracks the LCD, I was thinking of getting a HTC, its going to be a while before i do, i need to save up again now . well good luck anyways :) !

@anthoney987654321 Ouch. Sorry about your screen I didn’t know about the Streak’s screen being prone to cracking. Good thing I’ve decided to wait for the HTC Desire HD!
I get phone insurance free with my bank account.. worth looking into?

@husky041 i bought the dell in the end, it was brilliant…. untill the screen cracked, and because i didnt buy insurance carphone refused to repair it, same with dell, even though im not the only person to have had the same problem with the screen cracking so easy.

@anthoney987654321 You’re not helping! ;) I dismissed the idea of a Samsung Galaxy S because of its well-reported terrible GPS performance. I’d more or less decided to wait for the new HTC Desire in October (with bigger screen – named Desire HD or Ace). Now you have me looking at Streaks again…argh!

Jeff, it probably doesn’t display the HQ button in the YouTube app because you were connected to WiFi at the time. It only really presents that when you’re on 3G. Also, you could have easily verified that option that in the menu. You know, pinch-zooming isn’t the only way to navigate the browser. I often find myself double-tapping columns of text and that causes the browser to reflow the column to a legible text size and fills to screen width. Nice overview overall, though.

1.6 android os..wtf! Most android apps don’t even run on 1.6 anymore. Dell obviously didn’t put their best effort into this phone.

@AnnaMishel It can definitely be heard in a restaurant, but it’s distorted and voices sound underwater. Check back at our hardware overview to actually hear it.

It’s a tablet device, not a phone. As you can see it automatically defaults to landscape view, no phone does that. Also, it’s a 5 inch screen. Using something with a five inch screen as your everyday phone to talk on would be unpleasant. It has the ability to make phone calls but it’s not a phone. Just like computers have the ability to make phone calls but they’re not phones. This is just a mini computer.

Just because the phone has a larger screen, doesn’t mean it takes more computing power. It’s the amount of pixels that causes the need for more computing power. Correct me if i’m wrong.

Raging Thunder runs on as smooth as this on my HTC Diamond with Neopeek’s android builds. By the way, I think the EVO’s screen was way better than the Dell’s.

I think the one thing we should focus on is wich one won the car-race.
I’m pretty sure that the much succsesfull Evo-thunder-racer won over the newcomer Streak-maniac-racer.

Both of them suck though.

@corvettesarebetter Nope, this is not supposed to compete with the iPad. This is a phone, the iPad cannot make phone calls (other than Skype, but that doesn’t count, lol)
