Dell Streak ( mini 5 ) Review My first thoughts
Video Rating: 3 / 5
is it good as a phone? so easy to call and text people?
i bet you’ve never even touched one so shut your hole
I’m really interested in getting this as an uber-SatNav unit… but was wondering if you could confirm if it has full GPS i.e. can use it abroad without use of a SIM or is it AGPS? Also… do you know if you can buy Garmin maps for it – again, so it can be used as a stand-alone GPS unit abroad?
can you explain why 1.6 is sooo utterly obsolete?? the streak has turn by turn google nav and mulit touch browser. out side of those two features. there isnt any reason for a streak owner to envy 2.1…………. the streak has the those features already.

Qualifying college students will receive 10% off of their Streak!!!
The reason Dell opted for the 1.6 version was because it would cost them more to release the phone with a 2.2 update and they wanted to play it safe because this is their first phone/tablet. They were worried the phone would not sell and if it did and the sales were good 2.2 would be around the corner
WHO GIVES A CRAP IF ITS A PHONE OR A TABLET? ITS AWESOME!!! FAIR PLAY ABOUT THE 1.6 VERSION OF ANDROID BUT ITLL BE SORTED AND TO BE HONEST I HAVE HARDLY NOTICED A PROBLEM WITH IT, BOUGHT ONE TODAY
I have sent it back today i couldn’t get over the feeling i was carrying a TV around with me, I also found it fiddly to use in some areas down right complicated, hate to say it but back to my iphone, i miss it it’s just so easy to use.
5 inch , Android = WIN!
Good video. I don’t mind the Streak not having a ‘specific’ target area. I would use it for travel and restaurants. Internet browsing etc..
However, I would wait until it gets Android 2.2
What I am not sure of is whether this can be purchased unlocked? Carphone warehouse have a Buy now at a full price but I don’t want to be locked into O2
Whats better, the Dell Streak or Motorola Droid X?
will the dell streak 1.6 android unit be upgradable to the android 2.2 when it’s out?
well,i’m looking forward for it to upgrade to 2.2 but for now, i’m waiting dell streak to drop it’s price, since it’s 1.6 and not much people favors that, this will cause undermarket until it’s upgrade to 2.2.
What is the battery life like honestly? Is it usless like the desire? I want to buy this but i need to know how long it lasts using internet ect as I know most android phones are power hungry.
I dont like that phone. Way too big and just a bit of a gimmick… Good review though man!
@newmacgeek hello nice review but can you do the ultimate test the Browser speed against the HTC Desire and the Nexus one, so far i have found that the Nexus One is the fastest – yes faster than the HTC Desire – I know the Desire was released to be quicker but its not – the only advantage is the highlight and google word meaning search. Anyways if you can do a test, can you make sure that all neworks are the same as Vodafone is the quickest (slightly) on all three handsets. Thanks

I don’t know why people keep going on about it being too big to be a Smartphone and too little to be a tablet. It’s a MID people!!! It’s exactly the same form factor as most MIDS like the Viliv S5 and that’s what it’s for as Dell have stated. It’s a Mobile Internet Device.
As for viewing websites incorrectly, well just download Dolphin HD Browser for free from Android Market. It lets you select Desktop PC as your User Agent so websites will always display as they do on a PC.
mate you got any idea how to make
us itunes account from uk ??
Agree with some of the posts here about it being just small enough to be a phone & large enough to be a useful tablet like device. I can’t ever see myself taking an Ipad with me on my daily commute as its just too big. I use an Iphone now & find the screen too small. So the Dell screen would be near perfect. Now as soon as they upgrade to FroYo Android 2.2 I’ll be getting one.
what browser are you using on it? Because it might be a mobile browse and that’s why it keeps going to the mobile website.
I think it should have came with 2.1 or 2.2 I mean you can still get 2.2 on there but you just have to wait in till the hack is done but it should have a came with a newer OS
I kind of like the size one of many things I hate about the iPad is that it’s to big I do wish this was closer to a size on a netbook like 7inc
Great video sorry for the long comment:)
Hey newmacgeek, was wondering if the browser is only mobile view or can you see complete websites. It might be a stupid question as I have never had an android phone but I’d appreciate your help on it. Thanks.
I actually like it. Sure its not an iPad but its too small to be put in that category. Sure its not a cell phone but its too big to be put in that category. I would say this device is in a category of its own. I would be curious to know what type of processor its running. Lastly the only downside to this is its AT&T branded. I like to jailbreak my iphones and root my androids but any phone at&t brands is a pain. None the less I would like to give it a test ride. Nice review.
