Thousands of Light Bulbs Crushed for a Greenpeace Campaign Against Energy-Wasting Products

As G8 and EU ministers gather in Berlin, Germany, to discuss energy efficiency measures, Greenpeace activists have used a mechanised road roller to crush ten thousand energy-wasting light bulbs at the Brandenburg Gate. Greenpeace is demanding tough European efficiency standards for energy using products, and an immediate ban on incandescent light bulbs. The demonstration marks the start of Greenpeace International’s energy efficiency campaign, which aims to stop the huge energy wastage caused by a wide variety of inefficient electrical products.
UPDATE: Thanks to Andrew for comment on youtube:
1. We cleaned up after our own mess. As you can see there is a big tarp under the lightbulbs.
2. It is LESS wasteful to destroy brand new incandescents like these than use them. The energy you save by using CFLs instead far outweighs the energy production costs. Yeah, shocking but true!
