Hi, I need to know if this motherboard is good enough for gaming. GigaByte GA-X58A-UD3R Intel X58. I’m going to have overclocked i7 980x 4.2Ghz, 2 grpahic card ATI Radeon HD 5970 PCI-E 16X 2GB GDDR5 Video Cad and 6GB..OR SHOULD I PAY MORE AND GET THE GigaByte GA-X58A-UD7 Intel X58? Thanx.

@adamjamesroe …well, the i5-750 is quite good for gaming and I’m sure that Hyper-Threading is unnecessary for gaming. A HD4890 has nice performance but it’s rare so I would go for a HD5830. It’s a bit more expensive, but it’s worth. Furthermore I would never trust the Auto-OC. I always OC on my own and only use the BIOS. What if the Turbo V Evo cranks the Vcore to high… ;)

Actually I have changed my mind with the HDD- I’m getting a WD 500GB Sata II.
It would be harder getting a i7 than a i5- I’ll get one in the not too distant future.

@Forthevline if i am honest…no its terrible for gaming, if you want good gaming performance you want at least a HD4890 or a GTX 280, i would personly go for a i7 860 not an i3, because you have hyper threading and you can use turbo v evo to OC the CPU to a minium of 3.4 Ghz, RAM, good, Motherboard…good, you should probably get a SATA II HDD to take advantage of the 6Gb/s transfer rate on the P7P55D-E pro.

Thanks for the advice.
I was planning on getting an i5, but it was too expensive for the time being. I’m getting a job real soon, so I can gain the money for that in the long run.
I’m also going to get a 1GB ASUS ATI Radeon 5450 instead, as my retailer sold out of 4670′s.
As for SLI, Good thing this motherboard comes with an SLI cable, though I’m not a fan of Nvidia.

Looks ok for contemporary gaming , you coould upgrade on CPU (an i5 maybe) and definetely go for a better Graphics card .I use two 260 GTX in SLI , 24 Inch Screen

If you are using CrossFireX:
1st VGA: 16x lanes of PCIe 2.0
2st VGA: 4x lanes of PCIe 2.0

Then you have around 128GB of storage. I paid a total of $160.00 USD for a 32GB SSD, and a 1TB 7200 RPM HDD in M/S boot. I get the same performance as you do with the added bonus of around nine times the storage space and half the price. This is where you failed.
